In 1998, The Bridges Foundation donated the initial $5,000 to begin acquisition of an accessible van for the University of Washington, Rehabilitation Program. The program is coordinated by Francis Tromp Van Holst, OTR (right). Francis provides adaptive driving training for people with disabilities and needed much improved equipment.

In 2002, Kathy Bridges and her son Jake Fitzpatrick went to Seattle and participated in presentation of the new van, with total cost exceeding $125,000.

In 1998, The Bridges Foundation provided ski equipment to Shriner's Hospital Ski Program. When young adults turn 21, there are no other programs to assist skiers.

In 2002, The Bridges Foundation approached Oregon Disability Sports and Timberline Adaptive Snowsports to initiate a program at Timberline. Since then, The Bridges Foundation has provided $16,000 for ski equipment.

Thousands of visitors and staff have ventured into Jawbone Flat, the old mining community nestled within Opal Creek Wilderness area,  established by Senator Hatfield. For overnight workshops, visitors were using the old pick-up to transport supplies.

The Bridges Foundation donated $10,000, with a matching donation from Paul Allen Foundation, to allow purchase of a new hybrid van, which is wheelchair accessible and also protects personal belongings, food and other items from rain.
